CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn ribbons and badges as you learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. The coach to student ratio is a maximum of 1:10.
CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy program geared to hockey and ringette players that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills techniques and conditioning drills are taugh in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skill apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate’s Pre-CanPower is designed for younger skaters who can stand up on skates and move forward (shuffle, walk or glide) who may not be ready for CanPowerSkate.
Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition-this is what STARSkate is all about! STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skill, free skate and interpretive skating.
The Competitive Program is for skaters in singles, pairs and dance wishing to compete in Qualifying events within Skate Canada.
CanSkate has a fresh new look, new awards, great tools for coaches and most importantly a tested and proven new curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster. But there’s more! The new program also includes specific skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The New CanSkate program is orgazined into three Fundamental Areas: BALANCE, CONTROL & AGILITY.
I. STARSkate which offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of dance, skill, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a progressive and sequential manner and offers specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters also have the opportunity to participate in competitions.
II. CanPowerSkate, it was developed by a team of hockey, figure skating and ringlet experts to teach the fundamentals of power skating in a progressive and sequential manner.
Skaters who wish to challenge their figure skating skills and who show potential as competitive skaters can participate in the Competitive Skate program.
What is Competitive SKATE?
Competitive Skate is a program for skaters in singles, pair and ice dance wishing to compete in qualifying events within Skate Canada.
It's more than just skating!
Skaters enrolled in Competitive Skate learn a variety of life skills as they progress up the competitive ladder. These include goal setting, focus, ability to deal with success/failure, time management and principles of fair play and sportsmanship. In addition to the life skill benefits..
